Crazy Daisy Pendant

By now you've already seen the pattern for, and maybe even made, the Crazy Daisy earring design I came up with for a local gallery. Like most of us, I enjoy wearing jewelry that matches, so my next challenge was to come up with a pendant to match the earrings. I hope you have as much fun making one as I did!

Instructions

Step 1

Using the materials list above, straighten, measure and then cut all of the necessary wires. Place the center of the 18-gauge wire on the ring mandrel at size 15. Firmly wrap the wire to each side of the center, around the mandrel. At the cross-over point, use flat nose pliers to make a 90° bend on each wire as shown, with the circle being centered.

Step 2

Place the double barrel pliers on both straight wires, 1/2" from the circle. Use your fingers to bend both wire ends over the larger barrel, for a bail shape.

Step 3

Use flat nose pliers to make a slight dip in the straight wires, bringing them alongside the bail bend. Working from the top of the circle, up, use the 4" 21-gauge square wire to make 4 wraps to show, securing the bail.

Step 4

Bring the bail tail wires both to one side of the bail. Pass one wire through bail and down over wraps, and trim it even with the wraps. Pull other wire up and trim it even with top of the wrap wires. Use flat nose pliers to crimp both in place, at one time.

Step 5

Use a bench block and chasing hammer to flatten both sides of the circle shape only, and then texture one side if desired.

Step 6

Picture the circle shape of the pendant as though it were a clock. Now, working with one 2" piece of 21-gauge half round wire, wrap it twice around the frame at 9 o'clock, ending with the wire being on the front of the clock. Slide two of the leaf beads onto this wire, so their ends face each other in the center of the circle. Wrap the other side of the half round wire around 3 o'clock on the frame, and trim and tuck the end of the wire.

Step 7

Push the new "petals" to their respective sides of the frame, leaving a space in the middle of the half round wire. Continue connecting the other 2" pieces of half round wire and leaf beads; from the 1 o'clock to 7 o'clock points, and then at the 11 o'clock to 5 o'clock points. Be sure to leave a space in the middle!

Step 8

Using the 4" piece of half round wire, slide a 6mm yellow bead to the center and with the rounded side of the wire facing out, bend the wire in a U shape around the bead. Making sure that all of the leaves are pushed to the outside of the circle frame, slip the beaded wire ends down in the middle of the petals, with one half round wire on each side of the center. On the back of the pendant, use chain nose pliers to twist these two wires tightly together. Trim the extra length and roll the ends so that they lay flat against the back of the piece.
