Making a Wire Wrapped Ball

"Hi-I'm trying to figure out how to start off a random wire wrapped ball, with the bead in the center. I guess the softest wire is best, but even then everything I try ends up looking horrific! Any tips on how to get a neat but still random ball?"
Try doing it in a cage effect. I start with 3 wire and bind them in the middle. Then separate them at the binding wire and wrap them up and around the "ball".
