"What is the best way to straighten the wire before you go to work?"

The best way to straighten wire is to twist it with a pin vise if it is square wire you are using.
The next best way is to hold the wire with your chain nose pliers at one end of your wire and use a jeweler's cleaning cloth going upward with slight pressure with thumb and middle finger to straighten.
If you still have little bumps or kinks in the wire, use plastic jaws to straighten the wires.
